High Nylon Insert Lock Nut

A full-height hex nut with a nylon ring that grips the bolt thread, so it stays tight under vibration. The nylon insert deforms around the thread to create friction, preventing loosening from shock or movement. Install with a standard wrench and tighten until the bolt protrudes past the nylon ring. Commonly used on machinery, vehicles and equipment that vibrate.

DIN 982 has been withdrawn — is ISO 7040 the same part?

In the sizes we list, only the wrench size and overall height differ: wrench size: M10 is 17 mm on DIN 982 against 16 mm on ISO 7040 and M12 is 19 mm against 18 mm; overall height: M5 is 6.3 mm against 6.8 mm, M10 is 11.5 mm against 11.9 mm, M12 is 14 mm against 14.9 mm and M16 is 18 mm against 19.1 mm, plus 2 more sizes. M6 and M8 are the same in both. We still make it to the DIN 982 table for existing drawings.

Why is there no hot-dip galvanized option below M8?

The zinc layer is too thick for smaller threads, so hot-dip galvanizing starts at M8.

High or low nylon insert lock nut?

This high version is full height and carries the full load of a matching bolt. The low version (DIN 985) is lighter but carries less load.
