Half Dog Point Socket Set Screw ASME B18.3

A headless screw with a short cylindrical tip that fits into a mating hole or slot in a shaft. This point provides positive axial location. Install with a hex key in the socket, tightening against the shaft to seat the dog point fully. Commonly used to position collars, gears, and pulleys on shafts where a shallow hole or slot is provided.

Which set screw point should I use?

Cup point for most shafts; it bites in slightly. Cone point for the firmest hold, seated in a drilled dimple. Flat point where the shaft must not be marked or the screw is adjusted often. Dog point to fit a hole or slot for exact positioning.
